Seeking Stroud’s finest as local care home hosts virtual County Show

Highlighted home news

A care home in Stroud is inviting the local community to submit their entries to its virtual county show.

Care UK’s Scarlet House, on Westward Road, is inviting local people to showcase their talents as part of its ‘Almost Virtual’ Scarlet House Show, in support of the Prince’s Trust.

To make up for the absence of the Stroud County Show, which has been cancelled once again due to the pandemic, the team at Scarlet House has created five categories in which local people can shine: Photography, Baking, Flower Arranging, Fruit and Vegetables, and Handicrafts. Each category is divided into classes, such as ‘Freestyle Arrangement’ and ‘Table Display’ for Flower Arranging, and ‘Victoria Sponge’ and ‘Best Decorated Cupcake’ for Baking.*

To take part, the community is invited to pick up an entry form directly from the home, or email emily.shiers@careuk.com to receive a digital copy, and drop it back on Monday 14th June – as well as pay a £1 entry fee per class via the home’s Just Giving profile or in person when returning the entry form.

The winners will be selected by a jury composed of Scarlet House residents and team members and will be announced on Saturday 19th June – the best three entries in each class will receive a rosette and a certificate, while each category winner will receive a £10 voucher from John Lewis. An overall winner or Best in Show prize will also be crowned, and all proceeds will go to the Prince’s Trust.

Dot Pye, Home Manager at Scarlet House, said: “Scarlet House residents love the Stroud County Show, and after our very successful virtual pet show we wanted to take things one step further and give local people a chance to join in the fun too.

“Like with the real Stroud Show, we are asking people to submit their entries at the home where we can sanitize them before putting it on display ready for judging by team members and residents.

“Is your Rocky Road the best in the land? Would your sewing skills put the contestants of The Great British Sewing Bee to shame? Then bake, make, take a photo or create something and enter one or more of the fantastic classes in our Almost Virtual Scarlet House Country Show competitions. We can’t wait to discover hidden talents in our community.”

Scarlet House is a state-of-the-art care home and provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The care home, which features 86 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
