Stansted community pulls together for neigh-bourly care home visit

Highlighted home news

Residents at a care home in Stansted were thrilled to receive a special visit from some four-legged friends.

Knowing how many animal-lovers and former horse riders there are living at Care UK’s Mountfitchet House, on Coltsfield, the care home team decided to organise a unique treat in the form of a visit from Annie and Miller.

Supported by the members of the community, who rallied together to organise transport to enable the horses to travel to the home safely, the horses, owned by Stansted local, Sharon, trotted into the home’s garden, where they spent time with residents.

Jane Maxwell, Home Manager at Mountfitchet House, said: “We always like to go the extra mile for residents here at Mountfitchet House, and while the last year has been challenging, it’s wonderful to be working with those in the community to organise special activities for residents once again.

“Animal therapy can be incredibly beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia, as it can reduce stress, encourage social interaction, and provide an opportunity to relive happy memories and the associated emotions.

“We have so many animal lovers here at Mountfitchet House, and several residents who used to ride horses themselves, which is why we knew the visit would put a smile on everyone’s faces. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Sharon for bringing Annie and Miller, Essex Horse Transport and The Tackroom for helping to make such a wonderful day happen.”

Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, bar and hairdressers, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
