A visit of tea, laughter, and reflection – Local MP visits care home

A care home in Ashford welcomed a local MP for Care Home Open Week.

Care UK’s Montfort Manor, on Kennington Road, had the pleasure of welcoming MP for Ashford, Damian Green, for a morning of tea and reminisce as part of Care Home Open Week.

Care Home Open Week encourages communities to celebrate and thank care workers who remained on the frontline throughout the pandemic and showcase the unique characters living in care homes.A visit of tea, laughter, and reflection – Local MP visits care home

Alongside a tour of Montfort Manor, Mr Green was treated to afternoon tea in the home’s garden, where he was joined by residents who were encouraged to reminisce about their time spent in Ashford and discuss the changes that the town has seen throughout the decades. Discussions included the history of the railways in Ashford, changes to the Sevington area, inland border security, and the growth of the William Harvey hospital.

Mr Green said: “This visit has provided me with a fantastic opportunity to spend time with residents and reflect on how Ashford has evolved through the years.

“The last eighteen months have been exceptionally challenging for those living and working in care homes. The care home team at Montfort Manor work tirelessly to keep those they care for happy, healthy and living fulfilling lives, and despite the challenges of the pandemic, they have continued to do a fantastic job over the last 18 months. I would like to say a big thank you to Montfort Manor for inviting me to visit – I had a wonderful morning and was delighted to meet the residents and the team.”

Julie Pannell-Hurn, Home Manager at Montfort Manor, said: “We were thrilled to welcome MP Damien Green into our garden for a morning full of sunshine and fond memories of Ashford.

“Care Home Open Week is a fantastic opportunity to showcase what life at Montfort Manor is all about. Both residents and the team were very proud to welcome our MP to the home and show him our wonderful home. It was great to hear residents’ memories from their time spent in Ashford, and to learn how the area has played a significant role in their lives. It was very clear to see that our town is at the heart of so many here at Montfort Manor.

“We hope as restrictions continue to ease; we will be able to host more events in the near future.”
