Club tropina drinks are free – Purley care home celebrates competition win for summer garden party

Home news

A care home in Purley celebrated the return of the recent heatwave with a hydration themed garden party, that saw them win second prize in a nationwide competition.

Residents at Care UK’s Amberley Lodge, on Downlands Road, celebrated Nutrition and Hydration week with a summer garden party. To mark the week, Care UK care homes across the country were invited to arrange a themed garden party for residents and team members to enjoy, with the best entries having the opportunity to win a prize.

To stand out from the crowd, Amberley Lodge created their own sustainable cocktail bar using wooden pallets and recycling unused furniture.

Accompanying the new addition was an afternoon of fun, complete with music, dancing, and of course, freshly made cocktails. Residents were also treated to food, served by Head Chef Gilroy Desouza, which included a BBQ, pancakes, fruits to shop, mocktails and a variety of ice-creams. The garden was decorated with bunting and balloons, with the Amberley Lodge team donning their best sunglasses and Hawaiian themed shirts to mark the occasion.

The bar, which is now a focal point in the garden, and a popular addition among residents, serves to keep everyone hydrated as they enjoy relaxing in the home’s garden. Impressed with the team’s creativity and imagination, Amberley Lodge secured second prize.

In addition to the cocktail bar garden parties, the home has also launched its own market for residents to shop for local produce. Every Tuesday, Amberley Lodge hosts its own Surrey market where residents can shop the fruits and vegetables of their choice. Not only does this serve as a new social space for residents but also helps them to reminisce about times spent at a food market.

Azalea Moses, Home Manager at Amberley Lodge, said: “We were delighted to be named runner-up for our entry. The cocktail bar and weekly market have been popular additions among the residents and I’m sure will continue to be as the sunnier weather continues this summer.

“With heatwaves set to become a recurring staple of British summers, it’s important that we all remain hydrated and keep our cool, especially for older people. Our new cocktail bar has certainly provided a popular and fun solution for the summer heat, that we’re sure will continue to be popular regardless of the season!”
