Local care home invites Maidstone residents to understand dementia

Home news

A care home in Maidstone is inviting the local community to a free, online event for families caring for those living with dementia.

On Wednesday 11th August, from 2pm-3.30pm, local people in the community are invited to attend a virtual Understanding Dementia event hosted by Care UK’s Invicta Court on Gidd’s Pond Way.

Dementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, who is the Vice President of the Alzheimer’s Society and has extensive experience in healthcare for older people, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.

Jacqui Pompeus, Home Manager at Invicta Court, said: “We know that it can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia. A lack of knowledge and understanding of dementia can often cause difficulties for both the carer and the person living with the condition.

“This event aims to empower carers by supporting them with professional knowledge, insight and effective strategies to make living with dementia a more positive experience – as well as providing a safe space for shared experiences.

“We want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. This event has proven popular in the past and we’re looking forward to welcoming local people for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

Invicta Court offers a full range of older people’s care services in luxurious surroundings, including a café, hair and beauty salon, bar and cinema. The highly trained, professional team delivers permanent and short-term nursing and residential care, as well as specialist dementia care.
