Local care home invites Orpington residents to understand dementia

Home news

A care home in Orpington is inviting the local community to a free, online event for families caring for those living with dementia.

On Wednesday 25thth August, from 2pm-3.30pm, local people are invited to attend a virtual Understanding Dementia event hosted by Care UK’s Foxbridge House on Sevenoaks Road.

Dementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, who is the Vice President of the Alzheimer’s Society and has extensive experience in healthcare for older people, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.

Stella Barnes, Home Manager at Foxbridge House, said: “We know it can be as equally challenging as it is rewarding to look after a friend or relative living with dementia. It’s natural to feel confused about the best way to help your loved one, so our event aims to offer professional knowledge and insight to those who need it – as well as providing a hub for shared experiences”.

“This event aims to empower carers by supporting them with professional knowledge, insight and effective strategies to make living with dementia a more positive experience.

“We want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. This event has proven popular in the past and we’re looking forward to welcoming local people online for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Foxbridge House will host the joint event using Zoom, which is very easy to use. Simply call or email Customer Relations Manager, Dorothy Ayonmike, and she will send a link to join the event and share her tips to make the most out of the session.
