No sea-esta here – Ferndown care home celebrates summer at the beach

A care home in Ferndown embraced the summer spirit with a fun-filled beach party.  

Residents at Care UK’s Ferndown Manor, on Golf Links Road, took a special staycation and experienced the all classic hallmarks of a British seaside holiday from the comfort of the home’s garden. 

 

On the day, the garden was adorned with bunting and transformed into a beach-like setting with their own mini – beach with buckets and spades included. Parasols, and palm trees lined the garden, while team members donned their sunglasses and Hawaiian style shirts. Residents also had the opportunity to try their luck with traditional seaside games, including ‘hook a duck’ and a coconut shy. 

There was music and residents and team members alike enjoyed dancing, and of course, fish and chips especially prepared by the home’s Chef’s, Scott Moore & Jake Round, alongside a supply of mocktails and treats from a visiting ice cream van to keep everyone hydrated.

Residents were also encouraged to reminisce about their most memorable seaside holidays. Reflecting on their time spent at the beach, resident, Rachel, said: “The afternoon brought back happy memories of my travels in Europe where I spent many holidays throughout my younger years. The fish and chips and ice cream, however, reminded me of my childhood where we would often take beach trips around the UK.”

Tara Mackie, Home Deputy Manager at Ferndown Manor, said: “Setting-sail to the garden, we really kicked off the summer in style with our fantastic beach party. 

“Our seaside-themed event created the perfect setting to encourage residents to reminisce – it was fantastic to hear their stories about their favourite family holidays spent at the coast. Our ice cream van, sand pit, paddling pool and fish and chips lunch certainly made the experience even more immersive, the team really did a fantastic job bringing the seaside to the residents.
