No mossing around here! Poole manufacturer transforms care home garden

Home news

A local care home welcomed green fingered team members from Yunex Traffic to revamp its garden.

Residents and team members at Care UK’s The Potteries, on York Road, were delighted to welcome the senior management team from Yunex Traffic, who gave up their time to transform the home’s garden as part of their community outreach programme.

The volunteers spent the day sprucing up the garden by staining garden benches and removing large bushes. The team also repaired tarpaulin for the home’s chicken coup which will now become a greenhouse, and painted the summer house, which is a popular feature with residents throughout the warmer months.

Commenting on the revamp, Wilke Reints, Managing Director for Yunex Traffic in the UK, said: “We were really pleased to support our neighbours and help renovate the outdoor space for residents and their families to enjoy. The entire team found the day really rewarding and we’re looking forward to supporting the care home again in the future.”

Zita Turner, Home Manager at The Potteries, said: “We were thrilled to have the team members from Yunex Traffic come along to help revamp our garden.

“Resident’s love spending time outdoors, and the calming atmosphere is incredibly beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia. Whether its gardening, taking a walk, or watching the birds, spending more time outdoors is something we actively encourage, and the garden revamp will encourage everyone to do just that for those sunny autumnal days.

“On behalf of everyone at The Potteries, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Yunex Traffic, Wilke and his team who have transformed our garden in record time. The residents are very grateful, and we look forward to welcoming all of the volunteers back to spend some quality time in our beautiful garden when the warmer weather returns.”

The Potteries has recently attained the Care Homes Accreditation Quality Hallmark Award. Awarded by the Gold Standards Framework, the award recognises homes that demonstrate exceptional end of life and palliative care for residents and offers high-quality support and guidance for their family members. To be accredited, the home had to show that it met strict criteria in 20 different areas, ranging from leadership and support to dignity and respect, as well as submit a portfolio of evidence showing it had halved the number of residents needing hospital treatment and passing away at hospital.

The Potteries is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, in addition to the Namaste room, the care home also boasts its very own cinema and hair salon. There is also plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation. The home has a comprehensive activity programme, offering a mix of themed events and group activities.
