Aberdeen care home invites community to help spread festive cheer

Home news

A care home team in Aberdeen is gearing up to spread some festive cheer this Christmas.

Residents and team members at Care UK’s Tor-Na-Dee, on North Deeside Road, are inviting local people to join in with this year’s Doorstep Carols – Britain’s biggest ever carolling sing-along – on Wednesday 15th December at 6pm.

Following on from last year’s success, which saw more than 125,000 people take part, Doorstep Carols aims to inspire the nation to take to their front doors and sing-a-long to well-known carols and Christmas songs in unison. Streets taking part are also encouraged to use the opportunity to raise money for a charity of their choice. This year, Care UK is an official supporter of the initiative, with residents in over 126 of its homes taking part in various ways.

Having practiced their songs and learnt their lyrics, Tor-Na-Dee is calling for those in the area to also head to their front doors and take part in the festive activity, in unison, at 6pm. Alongside the doorstep carols, the home will also be hosting a socially distanced Christmas fayre and raffle.

Maureen Barrett, Home Manager at Tor-Na-Dee, said: “We are so excited to be taking part in Doorstep Carols this year here at Tor-Na-Dee.

“Residents and team members have spent the last few weeks perfecting their singing ahead of the event, and are looking forward to sharing this years’ festive experience with local people.

“Singing can be incredibly beneficial, especially for older people, as music and sound is closely linked to memory recall. Not only that, it’s an enjoyable, social activity which helps to create connections with others, as well as tapping into long forgotten memories which can evoke positive emotions.

“Everyone at Tor-Na-Dee is looking forward to spreading some festive cheer, and we are looking forward to seeing as many local people as possible come out on their own doorsteps to join in!”

Tor-Na-Dee provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema room and hairdressers, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
