A fur-bulous afternoon! Maidstone care home hosts paw-some dog show

Home news

A care home in Maidstone has announced the winners of its barking mad competition.

Care UK’s Invicta Court, on Gidd’s Pond Way, ‘raised the woof’ with its very own edition of Crufts.  As part of the contest, team members at the care home and resident’s relatives were invited to showcase their dogs’ skills and good looks, with residents also enjoying a ‘guess the breed’ quiz to figure out which dog belonged to which team member.

Ten im-paw-sibly adorable dogs entered, with a number of winners and rosettes handed out, including Amber, Team Leader Sophie’s Cockerpoo, who won ‘Cutest Dog’, Felicity, a Roman Spaniel, who secured the prize of ‘Loudest Bark’ and Mabel, a two-year-old Chihuahua who belongs to Lifestyle Coordinator, Becky, who certainly received the award for most cuddles on the day.

Sara Barbosa, Home Manager at Invicta Court, said: “We’re pleased to say our first-ever dog show was a resounding success; we loved seeing so many wonderful dogs strutting into our home – they made it very hard to pick a winner.

“We know just how beneficial animal therapy can be for older people, especially for those living with dementia, as being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood and stimulate social interaction. Many residents used to have dogs in their younger years, so they were thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of our judging panel and to meet so many adorable pooches.

“Congratulations to our winners – who knows, our dog show might become a yearly occurrence!”

Invicta Court offers a full range of older people’s care services in luxurious surroundings, including a café, hair and beauty salon, bar and cinema. The highly trained, professional team delivers permanent and short-term nursing and residential care, as well as specialist dementia care.
