No one trick peonies – Stroud care home hosts flower show

Highlighted home news

A care home in Stroud is inviting the local community to its first ever flower show.

To determine ‘once and floral’ who has the greenest fingers in the county, Care UK’s Scarlet House, on Westward Road, is inviting local people to showcase their talents as part of its ‘Scarlet House Garden Show’ on Friday 27th May, from 3pm-5pm.

Celebrating all things floral, the team at Scarlet House has created six categories in which local people and green-fingered children can shine: model garden (under 12s), model garden (adult), flower arrangement (with sub-categories including ‘novelty bouquet’, ‘bud rose’ and ‘single flower type’), best house plant, best home-grown single rose and best in show.

To enter, locals are invited to reach out to the team at Scarlet House to register their interest and to bring their creations on the day. The cost to enter is £2, with all proceeds going to Severn Area Rescue Association.

The winners will then be selected by a jury composed of Scarlet House residents and team members and will be announced on the day – the best entries in each class will receive gardening vouchers.

Patricia Jamieson, Home Manager at Scarlet House, said: “Residents follow the Chelsea Flower Show religiously every year – so we wanted to bring the show to them and give local people a chance to join in the fun too, all for a good cause.

“Gardening is a really popular activity here at Scarlet House. We have many green-fingered residents with decades of experience when it comes to plants and gardens, so they’re very much looking forward to judging the competition.

“Have you grown the county’s most beautiful rose? Are your neighbours green with envy when they look at your garden, or do you have a budding gardener at home with a passion for all things botanical? Then join us for our first-ever Scarlet House Garden Show!”

Scarlet House is a state-of-the-art care home and provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
