A few Twix up their sleeve – Worcester care home go all out for World Chocolate Day

Home news

Residents at a Worcester care home were in for a sweet treat when they entered a ‘world of pure imagination’.

Team members at Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, got dressed up and organised a unique experience for residents inspired by the Roald Dahl classic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The home was adorned with candy canes, balloons, and golden tickets – and the team dressed as Willy Wonka bars for the special occasion.

Sweet treats were delivered around the home by team members with a chocolate trolley, which included chocolate covered strawberries, brownies and mousse, specially made by the home’s chef.

Residents also enjoyed a viewing of the classic film in the home’s cinema and loved singing along to well-known tunes, rounding off the day with an entertaining game of ‘how many chocolates are in the jar’.

Harry said: “I had a wonderful day. It brought back a lot of memories from when I was younger and would save my money to get a chocolate bar like the children did in the film. I ate so much chocolate I thought I was going to turn into a chocolate bar myself!”

Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, said: “We had an amazing time creating our very own Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired day of fun – our Willy Wonka experience was a definite hit.

“It was very much a team effort, from residents who helped make the lovely decorations and decorate treats, to the care team who dressed up as Wonka bars – as per the residents’ wishes!

“We always try to come up with fun activities here at Perry Manor, and taking inspiration from our favourite books and films is a fantastic way to encourage reminiscence – all while being creative and enjoying some delicious treats too. It was a fantastic day that we will all remember for a long time!”
