On your marks, get set, go! Dorset care home hosts very special sports day

A care home in Dorset organised its very own sports day – with games adapted so all ages and abilities could take part.

With the aim of encouraging reminiscence of school days past, the team at Care UK’s Ferndown Manor, on Golf Links Road, hosted a traditional sports day.

On the day, the team and residents split into two teams and competed against each other. The blue and the purple teams competed in a relay, egg and spoon race and a throw the hoop competition. 

After a day of fun and games, the purple team came out on top with 15 points. The team were awarded gold medals for winning the competition. 

Sara Muslin, Home Manager at Ferndown Manor, said: “The Ferndown Manor sports day was certainly a highlight for residents and team members alike. It was wonderful to see everyone getting a little bit competitive and having a lot of fun. 

“Keeping fit is important for everyone, but exercise has many additional benefits for older people, from reducing the risk of falls to increasing wellbeing and confidence. Here at Ferndown Manor, we know just how important physical activity is, so we always encourage residents to stay active – and our own sports day was a great way to do just that. We also had the added bonus of encouraging residents to reminisce on school sports days from their own younger years, as well as their children and grandchildren. 

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the residents and team members who took part – it was certainly a day to remember!”
