A flying visit! Leamington Spa care home visited by host of feathered friends

A care home in Leamington Spa was joined by some beaky buddies who swooped in for a unique afternoon of animal fun.

Residents at Care UK’s Priors House, on Old Milverton Lane, gathered to admire the fascinating birds of prey brought to the home by Walks with Hawks.

As part of the animal therapy session, residents learnt about the history and characteristics of the birds, as well as other interesting facts about the calming creatures. The impressive birds, including a barn owl, a burrowing owl and a European kestrel, were admired by everyone, with some residents even daring to holding them on their arm.

Edward Proctor, a resident at Priors House, said: “The birds were fascinating, and it was a really exciting experience. Many of us had never seen an animal like those up close before!”

Francine Summers, Home Manager at Priors House, said: “We all enjoyed a wonderful afternoon meeting the mighty Thor, Henry and Rogue.

“Here at Priors House, we are always seeking new and exciting activities for residents to enjoy. Animal therapy has proven to be incredibly beneficial for older people, as it can offer a calming effect, and even prompt conversations. 

“It was so lovely to welcome all of these impressive birds into the home, and seeing residents interacting with them was wonderful – a big thank you again to Walks with Hawks!”
