Care home residents bring Nepal to Frimley for special care home celebration

Highlighted home news

Residents and team members at a Frimley care home have raised more than £100 for charity with an evening which celebrated Nepalese culture.

Care UK’s Whitebourne, on Burleigh Road, welcomed relatives and members of the Frimley community for an immersive evening celebrating Nepalese culture.

The event also marked Care UK’s 40th birthday, which has seen the care provider attempt to raise £40,000 for good causes with the support of care home teams across the country.

As part of the celebrations, Nepalese team members dressed in traditional attire to perform a dance routine, to both Nepalese and British music. Guests were also treated to traditional cuisine prepared by the home’s Head Chef, which included a chicken and pork, dumplings, and spirits from Nepal.

Keen to dress up for the occasion, residents also donned traditional Nepalese scarves and learned more about the history and culture of the country.

In total, the home has raised £100 from the Frimley community, which will be donated to local charity, Younger People With Dementia.

Commenting on the event, resident Arthur Brooker said: "It was an amazing evening and seeing all the staff glamorously dressed and also the dancing was lovely. The food was amazing too. "

Nealsen Veerasawmy, Home Manager at Whitebourne, said: “Everyone had a fantastic evening at our Nepalese festival. The team had a great time dusting off their dancing shoes to perform for the residents and loved sharing their culture with those unfamiliar with everything Nepalese.

“Here at Whitebourne, we are committed to ensuring the home is a welcoming and supportive place for everyone. We regularly celebrate different cultures and interests through memorable activities which promotes positive wellbeing.

“Everyone had a great time learning more about Nepal’s culture, history and evolution. We want to say a big thank you to everyone who came along to help us raise such a fantastic amount for charity. We’re already looking forward to planning our next event which we can invite the Frimley community along to.”
