Dressed to the nines – Stroud care home hosts fashion show

Highlighted home news

Move over, London Fashion Week – this Stroud care home hosted its very own fashion show.

Residents at Care UK’s Scarlet House, on Westward Road, walked the runway and strutted their stuff on the red carpet.

The special fashion show event gave many residents the opportunity to express their love for fashion, including Betty Smith, aged 94. A clothing store worker in her younger years, she used to model outfits on sale and has loved all things fashion ever since.

In total, nine residents took to the runway, modelling glamorous hats, neck scarves and furry jackets.

Joan Nash, aged 95 and one of the models on the day, said: “I loved wearing the faux fur coat, being in the spotlight and having a photographer there on the day. It was like being a real model!”

Lyndsey Dixon, Home Manager at Scarlet House, said: “We had a fantastic time hosting our very own ‘Scarlet House Fashion Week’ – and it was great to discover how talented residents were when it comes to the catwalk!

“Here at Scarlet House, we always look for new and exciting ways to encourage residents to reminisce about their careers and interests close to them. Many have a keen interest in fashion, so we pulled all the stops to give them a real modelling experience – red carpet included.

“It was also a great topic of conversation and lots of residents enjoyed talking about iconic fashion looks through the years, while putting on quite the show. We’re already looking forward to our next event!”

Scarlet House is a state-of-the-art care home and provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The care home, which features 86 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence.
