Halstead care home residents share pearls of wisdom with local youngsters

Home news

Residents at a care home in Halstead have been passing on their advice to the younger generation as part of a nationwide initiative.

Residents at Care UK’s Colne View, on Dame Mary Walk, have been sharing advice on transitioning from college to work with young team members at The Drapers Hotel, in Earls Colne, as part of a new intergenerational project – Wisdom Booths.

The Wisdom Booths initiative sees Care UK homes across the UK share their advice with younger generations after a national survey found 88% of people nationwide are grateful for what they’ve been told by their elders and 56% will always rely on them for advice, regardless of how old they are.

Residents were kindly invited to the hotel for a special lunch, where they were joined by three of the hotel’s youngest team members to share their tips and advice as they prepare to graduate college and move into the working world.

The pearls of wisdom at Colne View included Jack’s advice that “whatever you choose to do, there are always going to be good and bad days but stick at it”, to which he added “don’t let anything stop you doing what you want to do”.

Ruth suggested to “not rely on the internet to give you all the answers, listen and learn from other people” and Sylvia advised the young adults to “always be open to trying new ideas” as you need to “move with the times, you can’t turn the clock back – always look forward!”

Monica Boldeata, Home Manager at Colne View, said: “It was wonderful to see residents bonding with the team members at The Drapers Hotel when we visited the restaurant to share some words of wisdom on preparing for the future.

“Although it has been a long time since residents studied and joined the world of work themselves, it’s been fantastic to share their wise words, and also discuss how careers have changed over the years. Residents loved hearing about their plans and sharing their top tips for successful careers.”
