What a hoot – Framlingham care home residents invite local nursery for an afternoon of activities

Home news

Residents at a care home in Framlingham have been passing on their advice to the younger generation as part of a nationwide initiative.

Residents at Care UK’s Mills Meadow, on Fore Street, welcomed children from Little Leaders Nursery for an afternoon of educational, ‘wise-owl’ themed fun.

In preparation for the children visiting, residents made a ‘Tree of Life’, using their handprints as leaves and selected three residents to act as ‘Wise Owls’, sharing information on a host of topics from gardening to cooking and everything in between.

On the day of the visit, the children and residents took part in arts and crafts together – colouring in images of owls. Keeping with the theme, everyone was given an owl badge as a keepsake to remember the day by.

Rebecca Calver, Home Manager at Mills Meadow, said: “We had a fantastic time taking part in our ‘wise owl’ themed activities with Little Leaders Nursery.

“Here at Mills Meadow, we understand that intergenerational relationships have been proven to be enriching for all ages and can offer older people a sense of purpose. Taking part in activities and crafts together has provided a fantastic opportunity for both children and residents to learn from each other.

“Both the children and residents clearly enjoyed spending time together and we’re already looking forward to welcoming the Little Leaders Nursery back for our next activity.”

The activity was part of Care UK’s Wisdom Booths initiative which sees homes across the UK share their advice with younger generations after a national survey found 88% of people nationwide are grateful for what they’ve been told by their elders and 56% will always rely on them for advice, regardless of how old they are.
