Where’s the paw-ty at? Basingstoke care home invites community to their very own dog café

Home news

A care home in Basingstoke is inviting the community to a barking mad event.

On Friday 23rd of December, from 3pm-5pm, the team at Care UK’s Dashwood Manor, on Bradley Way, is inviting members of the community and their furry friends to a ‘Festive Dog Café’ event.

Attendees will be able to enjoy mince pies and mulled wine while being in the company of furry friends. Dog guests will be able to have plenty of fuss from residents, play with the other pooches and they will even have their own doggie mince pies.

The home created the event after being inspired by the positive impact animal visits have had on care home residents’ wellbeing and on hearing how much they missed the company of their own pets from their younger years.

Having dogs in the home not only encourages residents to spend time outdoors, leading to physical benefits, but it also helps them to lead fulfilling lives.

Dil Perera, Home Manager at Dashwood Manor, said: “We are looking forward to inviting the local community to our ‘Festive Dog Café’. This event provides us with an excellent opportunity to spread some festive cheer ahead of Christmas while enjoying the company of furry friends.

“Studies have shown that introducing dogs into care homes can help lift people’s mood and increase social interaction. The human-animal bond is powerful in promoting self-esteem and wellbeing – which our ‘Festive Dog Café’ event will be brilliant for.

“Whether you have a dog or not, we’d really encourage you to come along to our event – we’re set to raise the woof!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Dashwood Manor, includes space for hobby and leisure activities. Luxury facilities includes a café, hair and beauty salon, cinema and bar, and stunning gardens.
