“Don’t let time pass you by, make the most of it all” – Leamington Spa resident reveals the secret to living a long life on her 100th birthday

Home news

A Leamington Spa care home resident has celebrated her 100th birthday and revealed her secret to living a long and joyful life is to keep active and stay busy.

Edna Clay, from Care UK’s Priors House, on Old Milverton Lane, marked the impressive milestone on 29th January, and was joined by family members, residents and team members to toast the special occasion.

Revealing her secret to a long and happy life, Edna, who is well known at the home for her strong relationship with her family and sense of humour, said: “Don’t let time pass you by, make the most of it all”.

Enjoying the special day with a slice of birthday cake and a host of special gifts, the team went above and beyond to ensure Edna enjoyed a celebration to remember.

Francine Summers, Home Manager at Priors House, said: “Everyone had a wonderful time on Edna’s birthday, and she was thrilled to be joined by family and friends for the special celebration.

“Edna has been living at Priors House for almost a year now, and the home simply wouldn’t be the same without her. Edna’s positive outlook on life is inspiring and we could all learn a thing or two!

“Here at Priors House, we always strive to make an occasion of birthdays, and Edna’s 100th was no exception. We had great fun decorating the home and baking her a special birthday cake. Three cheers for Edna!”

Edna was born and raised in Coventry in 1923 and moved around the region in her younger years, living in both Stoneleigh and Kenilworth in Warwickshire, but never moved further than Leamington Spa. After finishing school, Edna went on to become a shorthand typist for Wolfer-Mill and her love for textiles also saw Edna complete a dressmaking course to pursue her hobby.

Edna met her husband Crossley at a dance and the pair were married in 1951. The couple shared a lifetime of happy memories and went on to have two sons together, three grandchildren and were lucky enough to meet their seven great-grandchildren. The pair marked seventy five special years of marriage together, before Crossley sadly passed away.

Priors House is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the home has its very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
