‘Do as you’re told’ – Woolmer Green resident shares secret to a happy marriage on 65th anniversary

Love was well and truly in the air at a Woolmer Green care home when a resident celebrated a very special milestone. 

Marian Woolgar, aged 84, a resident at Care UK’s Knebworth, on London Road, toasted her 65^th wedding anniversary with her husband, Trevor, aged 87, on 2^nd August.

Originally from Edmonton, the pair met at a dance in the nearby town of Walthamstow when they were teenagers. Following an evening dancing together, Trevor walked Marian home and the rest was history.

Marian said: “The first thing Trevor said to me was that I have lovely legs and should show them off more – he’s always been a charmer!”

Following their wedding, at All Saints Church, in Edmonton, the happy couple visited Devon for a well-deserved honeymoon.

Trevor joked: “During our honeymoon, we had our first row as husband and wife – Marian threw her ring on the floor and since then I’ve learned to do as I’m told!”

To celebrate the special milestone, the team at Knebworth surprised the couple with a romantic lunch, complete with a strawberries and cream cake specially made by the home’s talented Head Chef. To top the day off, Marian and Trevor continued the celebrations with a visit from their daughter, Tracy, granddaughter, Leah, and great-grandchildren, Emmie and Thomas.

Knebworth is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own hair salon and café.
