History in the making – Wilmslow community member names new local care home

Home news

A local resident has won a competition to help name a new care home in Wilmslow.

Knutsford resident, Adam Keppel-Green, took part in the competition to name the new Care UK home, on Manchester Road, which will open in Spring 2025.

The competition called for the people who know the area best, its residents, to share suggestions that had a cultural or historical reference to the town.

Adam came up with the winning name, ‘Long Stone Manor’, taking inspiration from the area the home is being built in, historically known as the Long Stone. The name was specifically given to a local arable field when the Cheshire Tithe map was completed in the 1840s.

Adam said: “I have an interest in local history and think new buildings and developments taking their name from the heritage of an area is important. When I saw the competition I checked the Tithe map for the site and saw it recorded as Long Stone – which I thought sounded great for a grand new building.”

As a reward for coming up with the winning name, Care UK has donated £250 to Adam.

Joshua Jones, Lead Development Manager for Care UK, said: “The home naming process is one of the key milestones for a new home, so it was important to involve the community in the decision.

“It was amazing to see so many people send us entries, all of which were really high quality. The area clearly has a rich history, and while it was really hard to pick a winner we felt ‘Long Stone Manor’ really rooted the home in the local area.

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone that made a name suggestion, and to Adam for his inspired entry – we are very much looking forward to the home taking shape and opening with its name of Long Stone Manor in 2025.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home, which is set to open in Spring 2025, will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
