Quorn care home celebrates third birthday in style

Home news

A care home in Quorn threw a birthday bonanza to celebrate reaching a special milestone – and were joined by some very special guests.

The Care UK team at Lonsdale Mews, on Farley Way, were joined by members of the Quorn community as they pulled out all the stops for a special birthday bash, to mark three years since the home officially opened.

In honour of the special occasion, the home welcomed Kate Hutchinson, a member of the Quorn Women’s Institute, to help unveil a portrait of the 5th Earl of Lonsdale after she won a competition to name the home when it first opened its doors in 2020.

Also joining the celebrations was Dennis Marchant, member of the Quorn Local History Group, who delivered an informative talk on the history of Hugh Cecil Lowther, the 5th Earl of Lonsdale, the historical figure that inspired the home’s name.

The afternoon saw residents enjoy singing along, tapping their feet and dancing along to live entertainment from new local singer and guitarist, James Collumbine, who performed the home’s favourite tunes from through the eras – getting everyone in the party spirit.

To top off the afternoon, everyone enjoyed the festivities with a slice of birthday cake, whipped up by the home’s talented Head Chef, and toasted to the special occasion.

Toby Sturgess, Home Manager at Lonsdale Mews, said: “We loved welcoming relatives and community friends into the home to enjoy the party atmosphere as we marked this special occasion in style.

“The last three years have absolutely flown by! We’ve welcomed some wonderful people to the home, built long-lasting relationships with the local community and hosted countless themed days and parties – from marking special milestones and birthdays, to taking part in charity fundraisers and even welcoming alpacas into the home.

“The whole team worked hard to create a birthday party to remember, and I am delighted to say their efforts were a huge success. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who makes Lonsdale Mews an amazing place to call home, and for helping to make the day extra special – here’s to the next three years and beyond!”

Lonsdale Mews offers full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite. The home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
