Slough care home residents renew their vows

Home news

A couple at a Slough care home celebrated their wedding anniversary in the most perfect way.

Barbara and Anthony Carter, who live at Care UK’s Oak House on Forest Close, renewed their vows to mark their 52nd wedding anniversary.

To make it a day to remember, the Oak House team turned the home into a lavish wedding venue and invited the happy couple’s family and friends to celebrate with them. There was also a tasty wedding menu specially prepared by the Head Chef for all guests to enjoy.

Prior to the ceremony, the team at Oak House also organised stag and hen parties for the happy couple, featuring a butler in the buff for the ladies and an Elvis impersonator for the gentlemen.

Anthony said: “It was such a lovely day for us to share with our friends at Oak House and our daughter, Elizabeth.”

Agnieszka Klimkowicz-Buda, Home Manager at Oak House, said: “Barbara and Anthony are truly inseparable; it’s easy to see just how much they adore each other and they’re a real inspiration to us all.

“Here at Oak House, we are always looking at ways we can celebrate important milestones with residents, including wedding anniversaries. Barbara and Anthony wanted to take their celebrations one step further by renewing their vows, and we were all too happy to help them, even inviting a priest to make it official, along with family and friends.

“Barbara and Anthony’s vow renewal was an emotional day for as all – one we were honoured to play a part in. Congratulations again, both!”

Former nurse Barbara and area manager Anthony got married in 1971 on a warm September day in Plymouth. Both fondly look back on their first date at the cinema, with Anthony commenting that Barbara was ‘the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen.’ When asked about their secret to a long marriage, both agreed that helping each other, and keeping the other happy, was key.

Oak House provides residential, nursing and short-term respite care, as well as specialist dementia care. The home enables residents to live active and fulfilled lives while also promoting independence.
