Coffee, cake and support – Cheltenham dementia café to receive special visitor

Home news

A care home in Cheltenham has invited a special guest along to its popular dementia café.

On Wednesday 25th January, from 3-4pm, dementia experts from Care UK’s Sandfields, on St Georges Road, will welcome the Mayor of Cheltenham, Councillor Sandra Holliday, to its popular ‘Forget Me Not Café’, held at John Lewis in the town centre.

Established in partnership with John Lewis, the monthly café provides guidance and practical support for local people living, or caring for a loved one, with dementia. The friendly team at Sandfields, along with regular guest speakers, offer professional tips and advice for day-to-day care, getting out and about, and support available in the local area.

The sessions also provide an opportunity for family carers, and those living with dementia, to meet and share personal experiences with each other in a safe, friendly environment – all while enjoying a coffee and tasty treat.

Following the incredible success of the café since its launch, Councillor Holliday is set to attend to show her support and experience first-hand the impact the café has had on supporting and bringing the community together.

Malaika Browne, Home Manager at Sandfields, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Councillor Sandra Holliday to our ‘Forget Me Not Café’ – the whole team here at Sandfields has worked hard to create a friendly space for family carers and those living with dementia to meet and learn more about the condition.

“The café provides attendees a wonderful chance to connect with others in similar situations and form a strong support network – with help from Sandfields’ care-experts – and we’re thrilled to be able to show the Mayor what we’ve achieved.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Councillor Holliday and would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone caring for a loved one with dementia and those living with dementia, as well as those just wanting to learn more, to join us for a coffee and a chat!”

The ‘Forget Me Not Café’ happens on the last Wednesday of every month at 3pm.

Sandfields is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
