A Suffolk care home proudly welcomed the community to join residents and their relatives for a joyful and nostalgic celebration marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Care UK’s Cleves Place, on Millfields Way in Haverhill, pulled out all the stops to commemorate the poignant anniversary of Victory in Europe, and hosted a 1940s-themed street party.
On the day, children from Coupals Primary Academy and the local community joined residents for an afternoon of traditional games, refreshments and singalongs.
In addition, the Mayor of Haverhill, David Smith, was in attendance to cut the ribbon and officially open the new Day Centre at Cleves Place, which will provide flexible day care for older adults in the community who are living independently.
Clare Mooney, Home Manager at Cleves Place, said: “We had a fantastic time marking VE 80 and celebrating the grand opening of our new Day Centre with the residents, their families, and the wonderful Suffolk community.
“It was a privilege to commemorate this significant anniversary and welcome the Mayor of Haverhill, as residents shared their memories of the past and celebrated this important historic milestone.
“I would like to thank the entire team at Cleves Place for making this celebration possible, as well as all the guests and the Mayor of Haverhill who joined us for our party.”
