Team members at a care home in Cheltenham went the extra mile – literally – for charity in the form of a bike challenge.

Six dedicated team members from Care UK’s Sandfields, on St George’s Road, took part in a static bike fundraising challenge to raise money for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.
Held in the foyer of the nearby Waitrose, the team cycled a number of miles on the day. Their collective pedalling power raised an impressive £359.89, all of which will support the hospice's expert and compassionate palliative care services across Gloucestershire. Care UK match funded the amount, bringing the total donation to £719.
Malaika Charles, Home Manager at Sandfields, said: “It was a real privilege to take part in the challenge alongside my colleagues. Although it was difficult at times, knowing the money we raised would help Sue Ryder support people and families during such an important time made every mile worthwhile.
“I’d like to extend a huge thank you to the team who got involved and to everyone who donated on the day. We are incredibly proud to have raised over £700 for such an important cause.”
Sandfields is a state-of-the-art care home that provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The care home incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies, and includes its own cinema, hair and beauty salon and café.
