Stansted care home organises magical prom night for residents

Residents at a Stansted care home have been transported back to their youth with a special prom night.

Inspired by BBC Proms and the residents’ love of dancing, the team at Care UK’s Mountfitchet House, on Coltsfield, transformed the home into a glamorous prom venue.

The evening was complete with music from DJ John Chaplin, decorations and refreshments, and residents didn’t miss the chance to dress to the nines. Many shared fond memories of dances and proms from their younger years, making the occasion especially meaningful.

Guests enjoyed a selection of canapés and light bites served by waitstaff throughout the evening, including mini toad-in-the-hole, fish and chip cones, homemade quiches and pizzas, and for dessert, residents enjoyed profiteroles, mini cheesecakes and fruit skewers.

A highlight of the event was the crowning of the prom king and queen. Attendees cast their votes during the evening, with residents Brian and Cathie, a married couple, being named King and Queen.

Resident Lillian Holmes, 85, said: "I was over the moon to have my family by my side and to see my great-grandchildren dancing the night away. It brought back so many happy memories from over the years, especially of all the family parties we've had.”

Joanna Duke, Home Manager at Mountfitchet House, said: “It was absolutely lovely to see everyone get dressed up and truly embrace the spirit of the evening.

“Reminiscing about positive moments from the past can be incredibly beneficial for older people and to recreate those experiences brought back some wonderful memories. The smiles on everyone’s faces said it all!

“At Mountfitchet House, we’re always looking for ways to make life joyful and fulfilling, and our prom was the perfect opportunity to celebrate and make new memories together.”

Mountfitchet House is a state-of-the-art care home that provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. It incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies, and includes its own cinema, hair and beauty salon and pub.
