Whitstable care home praised by national inspectors

A national watchdog has given a care home in Whitstable its seal of approval following an unannounced inspection.

Care UK’s Harrier Lodge, on Thanet Way, was awarded a ‘good’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as part of its three-week evaluation assessing safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and leadership.

The report spotlighted the positive sentiments expressed by residents and visiting professionals, with relatives informing the inspectors of the staff being kind, respectful and responsive.

One relative said: “I really think this home is wonderful. The staff and the setup are just amazing – it’s like home and it’s all good.”

Inspectors highlighted team members’ understanding of each resident’s individual needs, noting how they recognise and promote the factors that help them maintain good health and wellbeing.

Inspectors also recognised how the team ensures residents are empowered to make informed choices, and have maximum independence and control over their lives, while incorporating this information into providing the best possible care.

Harrier Lodge is a purpose-built care home that has been designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The expert team provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 65 older people in Whitstable.
