Julia Joy

Home Manager

Julia Joy

Im a registered nurse and I used to work in hospitals.

However, Ive been a care home manager since 2000. It was the best move for me – I find working in care homes far more satisfying.

I used to work for Care UK and was keen to rejoin the organisation: it strives to deliver the highest quality care, dignity and respect for residents. As a company it is also very supportive of its colleagues.

I love talking to residents, learning about their lives and meeting their families. I have a fantastic team here and I enjoy chatting to colleagues: they help and support me to do my job and they have some superb ideas about how we can improve residents lives, and make Ambleside a wonderful place to live.

Deputy Manager

I’ve worked at Ambleside for nearly ten years.

Before joining the team, I was a Team Leader at another local care home, but I was keen to have a change and work in a bigger care home. I’m so pleased I made the move to Care UK, and becoming Deputy Manager at Ambleside has been a highlight of my career so far.

Residents are at the heart of everything we do at the home. I’m passionate about making their life enjoyable and rewarding, and supporting them to maintain their independence. The highlight of any day is speaking with residents and finding out about the activities they have been enjoying, and learning more about their life.

Being positive, a good listener, honest and fair are all-important as Deputy Manager. I’m here to support the team, the residents and their loved ones in any way I can. 

In my free time it’s my children who keep me busy, I have three boys! I enjoy walking and watching films too. 

Staci Reeson
Customer Relations Manager

I spent 16 years in the UV Printing Industry, then ran my own marketing consultancy.

 It was another CRM who gave me a push to apply, I am so glad I did. Everyday is different, you start to build some wonderful relationships from the very first point of contact. I see it as a real privilege to help families, friends and future residents make that sometimes very difficult decision to make a move into a home. We have many who come for respite stays, it's amazing that the families always stay in touch afterwards.

Outside of work I love to go sailing or spending time away racing with Europe’s most successful off road race team.

Matthew Bond
Head Chef

I’m an experienced care home chef and I wanted to join Care UK because it has a great reputation for being an excellent company to work for, and for the way it puts residents first.

It’s also very innovative in its approach to food and dining.

As Head Chef at Ambleside, I work hard to understand each resident’s nutritional needs and to meet them with healthy food they’ll love. I work closely with the clinical team as well as dietitians/nutritionists to ensure residents’ health and wellbeing are maximised – whether they need a particular type of diet, or need help getting more calories into their meals.

I enjoy meal times, when I can see residents enjoying the food we’ve made, and I can gain their feedback. I’m always trying to improve what we do. In the few years that I’ve been at Ambleside, I’ve developed a reliable and talented team. We enjoy what we do, we enjoy working together, and we enjoy bringing new menu ideas to life to benefit residents.

Wendy Fojtik
Lifestyle Lead

Ive worked at Ambleside before but had some time away working for a charity and then running my own business.

When I saw this role, I knew that my nursing knowledge and previous experience would be transferable, so I applied.

Im passionate about helping residents to enjoy the lifestyle they want – choice is all-important. Every day is rewarding, and every day is different because helping so many different people to enjoy meaningful activities keeps me on my toes! But I love it when an activity has gone well and residents are talking about it.

In my spare time I volunteer at a local Brownie group. Its great fun working with a different generation – Ive been doing it for over ten years.

Lifestyle Coordinator

I have a varied work background, but it was the experience of caring for a poorly relative that ignited my passion for care.

I was determined to work in the care sector after that, and I was delighted to join the team here at Ambleside in early 2020.

I love every minute of my working day because every day is different and there’s always a fresh challenge to keep me on my toes. I enjoy learning more about the residents and finding new ways to make them smile. 

One of my strengths is staying calm in stressful situations and using my initiative to find a solution, while always maintaining a caring attitude – residents are always my – and the team’s - priority. There’s a very supportive team here at Ambleside and a great family atmosphere. 

Outside of work my three beautiful sons keep me busy. I also enjoy photography and like to unwind by getting out in nature. 

Juliet Moss
Lifestyle Coordinator

My work background is pretty varied, I led the housekeeping team at Stratford-upon-Avon School for many years, and, prior to that, I worked in journalism.

I joined the Ambleside team in 2017. I’d seen the care home being built and was interested in a new challenge and in working with older people. I’m a caring person and I’m so glad I made the move into the care sector. I love my job!

Every day is different in this role. I enjoy listening to residents’ stories, and it’s wonderful when I’m able to fulfil a wish for them. However, it’s equally as rewarding simply giving them my time. I love making them smile.

I’ve been Lifestyle Lead since late 2021 and am proud of the way I’ve steered our activities programme, taking it from strength to strength. Of course challenges pop up, but this role has shown me how adaptable and creative I can be, and what a wonderfully supportive team there is here at Ambleside!

Outside of my job I have seven grandchildren who keep me busy! I also like to unwind by doing jigsaw puzzles. They’re great for destressing after a long day.

Sharron Makepeace-Lane
Business Administrator

I used to run a cash office for two large supermarkets, as well as my own family business for many years.

When this role came up and a friend, who works here, suggested I’d be good at it, I thought I’d give it a go. I was delighted to discover I’d got the job as I wasn’t sure I had the right qualifications.

I like getting in first thing in the morning and seeing what needs doing, as you never know what each day will bring – I enjoy the variety that brings. While the challenges can be different each day, being a good listener and being determined to solve problems is something that you always need. What I’m also really enjoying is having the chance to get to know the residents.

Sharon Braithwaite
Head Housekeeper

I used to work in hotels before moving to the care sector.

While you meet lots of different people in the hotel industry, I really enjoy working for residents, talking to them and their families, and helping to make every day that little bit easier or more special if I can. It’s more interesting than hotel work.

There’s quite a lot to being a head housekeeper – looking after the housekeeping team and ensuring everything runs smoothly, and there’s a fair bit of paperwork.

I'm also the Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Champion for Ambleside care home. It's my job to establish and maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness so that residents, colleagues and visitors keep safe. I ensure that all colleagues are well trained in infection control, and I'm on hand at all times to ensure colleagues are working to the highest standards.

When I’m not at work I like to relax by walking the dog and enjoying some retail therapy with my daughter!

Richard Jones
Maintenance

I joined the Ambleside team in 2019, having been a Tesco home delivery driver for a long time.

I fancied a fresh challenge and the chance to stay in one place! I enjoy completing hands-on tasks, and I felt Id be able to contribute a lot to the home, the residents and the team. In my second month in the job I received the ‘Going the Extra Mile award, which is given out to colleagues each month – that was a genuine highlight!

Every day is different and the atmosphere in the home is amazing. Theres always plenty to do too. I like all aspects of my job, whether its chatting to residents and their families, catching up with paperwork, or finding new ways to support my colleagues. I like ticking off the tasks Ive done around the home; it means that Im doing my bit to help, and the home is safe for everyone.

The nurses at Care UK are highly skilled and receive sector-leading training, which enables them to keep developing expertise in different clinical fields from dementia to palliative care.

Lifestyle

Our dedicated lifestyle teams work hard to organise a range of activities and events at our home. From gardening and baking to quizzes, music sessions and even live entertainment. Above all, we get to know your loved one to make sure our activities are tailored to suit their interests and hobbies.

Home support roles

From catering to maintenance, housekeeping to administration, our home support teams play a crucial part in ensuring individuals enjoy an exceptional and safe service every day.

All our teams get to know each person they care for to ensure they provide a service that’s designed around their unique needs and tastes. 

Infection control

Each of our homes have a trained Infection Control and Prevention Champion – they are responsible for carrying out daily infection control audit and ensuring cleaning protocols are meticulously applied.
