Francesca Cowley

Home Manager

Francesca Cowley

As a Home Manager, I am constantly striving to make the home a better place.

At Highmarket House we’re very passionate about supporting residents to live well, whether that’s delivering tailored activities, award-winning food or providing residents living with dementia namaste care, every department pulls together to support residents’ health and wellbeing.

Having a role in leadership is a privilege, making the resident’s and teams day is important to me. I worked for Care UK for 5 years, Care UK is an excellent care provider to work for, it’s a growing organisation focused on the delivery of quality care.

Knowing I’m making a positive impact on residents' lives is what motivates me. I’m very proud of the way the team delivers exceptional care to residents and their loved ones. It’s one big family at Highmarket House and that’s what makes it a very special home. I’ve worked in the care sector since 2008, since I was 18 years old. I’ve worked my way up doing different roles, including Team Leader, Trainer and Unit Manager. I joined Care UK in 2018 because I’d heard good things about the organisation, I’m very proud to be the Home Manager at Highmarket House.

I have a passion for what I do, and I’ve done it for a long time, and I’m always looking to make a difference to the people we care for. Everyone who works at Highmarket House takes a ‘whole home’ approach to caring for residents. Away from work, I like to spend time with my family. I like listening to music, watching TV and going on a good shop!

Corina Talaba
Corina Talaba
Deputy Manager

I joined Care UK after seeing how happy the residents were at Highmarket House and hearing lots of positive feedback about the home.

I started my career as a General Nurse in Romania, and I joined Highmarket House as a Clinical Lead. After seven months, I was so proud to be promoted to Deputy Manager Clinical.

To be a good Deputy Manager, it’s important to be very open, honest and driven. My favourite part of the day is my walk around the home. It’s the best time to have meaningful conversations with residents.

Caring for residents is the most important part of my role, and I’m proud that I can make a difference and change peoples’ lives.

Outside of work, I go to church regularly and like walking and exploring new places with my family. I also love reading.

Michaela Jones
Michaela Jones
Customer Relations Manager

I was working as a manager of business development before becoming Customer Relations Manager at Highmarket House. I loved the idea of merging my skillset in business and finance with such a rewarding and caring environment, and being able to help make a difference in people’s lives.

Care UK is a great organisation to work for. They look after residents and families well, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of that.

My role is focused on advising, supporting and facilitating the needs of those transitioning into a care environment. I also work hard to keep the home active in the community to ensure we are supporting one another. As a CRM, it’s important to be caring, understanding and considerate, as well as proactive and enthusiastic.

I love to meet new people and understand how we at Highmarket House can help them, and I also enjoy engaging with residents each day.

Outside of work, I enjoy cinema, socialising and I’m very family orientated. I enjoy trying new things, whether that be going to new places or doing activities I’ve never done before.

Unit Manager

I joined Care UK in 2018, looking for a new challenge, to learn and develop. To be successful in this role you need to be your team rock, to support and develop colleagues. Be a great listener and to set a good example.

My favourite part of the working day is when I see residents happy, my team is happy after I coach them and most importantly working in a positive environment. Working at Highmarket House is my second family, I love the homely atmosphere it provides and being able to fulfil a meaningful lifestyle to the residents.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with family, and I love to travel.

Wendy Cross
Wendy Cross
Lifestyle Lead

I enjoy doing anything that’s craft-related. I absolutely love to sew and make personalized ragdolls in my spare time, and I used to work in a local haberdashery shop before I joined Highmarket House. A friend worked here and suggested the job to me as she thought I’d love it. She was absolutely right, and here I am. I joined the team in 2018.

In this role it’s important to be energetic, caring, patient, flexible and organised.

I love spending time with residents and their families, hearing about their past, the jobs they’ve had and how they used to live. Of course, I love the craft activities that we do too! Looking ahead, I’m looking forward to getting to know the residents and their families, finding activities they enjoy and making residents’ wishes come true.

I joined Care UK in 2018, previously working as a Nurse for physical and learning disabilities. To be successful in this role you need to be caring, patience and a good listener.

I enjoy looking after the residents like they are my family, keeping them safe and making sure I give them a fulfilling meaningful life. My biggest professional challenge is being promoted to a manager, being in charge of the team making sure the team are happy as well as the residents. Dementia Suite Manager/ Dementia Champion

I have worked at Highmarket House since 2017, since the home first opened. I’m the Dementia Suite Manager and I’m also the Dementia Coach for the home, delivering dementia training to all my colleagues. I’m very passionate about delivering the best care for those living with dementia and it’s the best feeling knowing you have made a difference.

I chose to work at Care UK as they put residents at the heart of everything they do, which is one of my own values. My favourite part of my day is when I do a walk around the suite and greet residents, you hear amazing stories.

When I’m not at work you will find me socialising with friends and solving puzzles!

Melanie Deans
Melanie Deans
Receptionist

I wanted to join Care UK because I liked the sound of the values its colleagues share – of being caring, passionate and working together as a team. I also thought Highmarket House looked like a nice place to work.

I worked as a Care Assistant before moving into the role of Receptionist/Administrator. This promotion has been the highlight of my career. As the first port of call for residents and relatives, it’s important for me to be kind, confident, happy, chatty and have good attention to detail.

My favourite part of the day is always greeting all the residents each morning and meeting the relatives when they come into the home. I’m proud to work for Care UK and as part of the team at Highmarket House.

In my free time, I enjoy socialising with friends and reading.

Melissa Harvey-Pemberton

Head Housekeeper

As Head Housekeeper I work across Highmarket House and liaise with different teams, so it means I’m in a good position to oversee IPC at the home too. I ensure all paperwork is completed and all IPC audits are performed regularly, and I support other teams to be compliant in IPC.

Care UK is a great company to work for and Highmarket House is a lovely home to work in. When I joined, the team and the residents made me feel very welcome. The managers are very supportive, and it’s fantastic to see the difference that you can make to the home on an individual, as well as on a team, basis. I’m very proud to be ensuring the home is achieving the highest standards in cleanliness and infection prevention and control.

Callum Keane
Callum Keane
Maintenance Manager

Before I joined Care UK, I worked as a landscape gardener for 10 years, including completing my Level 3 in Countryside and Estate Management and my Level 2 in Property Maintenance. I’d heard good things about Highmarket House, and I liked that Care UK offered opportunities to progress in my career.

No two days are the same in this role, so it’s important to be flexible, adaptable and prepared for change. As Maintenance Manager of a care home, the most important part of what I do is ensuring the safety, comfort and wellbeing of the residents who live here.

I enjoy working with the residents and listening to their life stories, and I feel proud when I can help them. It feels great to know that I can assist in making someone’s day a little easier or help them to solve a problem. I also appreciate receiving positive feedback from people outside the home regarding how well Highmarket House is doing and how far we’ve come.

When I’m not working, I enjoy working on old cars, especially Land Rovers. I love exploring and camping with my wife too.
