Laura Davison

Home Manager

Laura Davison

I have worked in the care sector for over 20 years, with the last 11 spent here at Magdalen Park.

During that time, I’ve been fortunate to take on a variety of leadership roles, and I was proud to become Home Manager. I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care and I’m passionate about ensuring residents receive the very best standards of care.

I believe strongly in Care UK’s ethos of delivering outstanding care. As a manager, I lead with clear values and focus on supporting my team to grow their skills and confidence. By empowering colleagues, I know we can create the best possible outcomes for residents.

My favourite part of the day is greeting residents and colleagues each morning, followed by regular walks around the home so I can chat to everyone. I’m proud of the strong relationships I have with residents, families, colleagues and the wider community, and I always aim to lead with compassion and understanding, especially in challenging times.

Outside of work, I enjoy family time, long walks with my dog, and staying fit. I am passionate about fitness and love challenging myself, especially when it helps raise money for charities.

Angie Ward
Angie Ward
Deputy Manager

I’ve worked in care since leaving school and it’s a career I’ve always been deeply passionate about. Although I took a short break to work as a relief licensee for Mansfield Brewery, I always felt drawn back to caring. Returning to the sector felt like coming home, and since then I’ve continued to develop professionally, achieving my NVQ Level 5 in Management which strengthened my skills and confidence in leading others.

I started in care as a care assistant and gradually progressed to Deputy Manager. During that time, I developed a real interest in dementia care and specialised in supporting people living with dementia, ensuring that the care they received was tailored, respectful and centred on their needs.

My favourite part of the day is mealtimes. I love seeing residents relaxed, chatting and enjoying good food. It’s a time when their personalities shine.

My biggest career highlight has been progressing from a care assistant to Deputy Manager. I feel blessed that colleagues believed in me and encouraged me to grow.

The most important part of my role is welcoming residents when they are at their most vulnerable and helping them regain confidence, joy and a sense of connection. Watching them blossom again is the greatest reward.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching rugby league and walking my dog. I like to unwind and a good work-life balance is important to me.

Brian Everett
Brian Everett
Head Chef

I trained at Hull College where I achieved my Level 2 in Catering and Hospitality, and I’ve worked in busy kitchens ever since. Before joining Magdalen Park, I was Head Chef at a popular restaurant, responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the kitchen and maintaining consistently high standards.

As Head Chef, it’s necessary to be composed, pay attention to every detail and lead by example. Motivating and developing the team is a big part of the role too. My favourite moment of the day is just before dinner service, when all the careful planning and prep come together. Seeing residents enjoying their meals and receiving positive feedback gives me a real sense of fulfilment.

A proud moment in my career was becoming Head Chef of a 300-seat restaurant at just 21. Managing a team of 12 chefs was a huge learning curve, but it shaped the chef I am today.

I feel proud whenever residents or colleagues compliment the food or the service we provide. The most important part of my role is balancing creativity with the operational demands of the kitchen, ensuring high-quality, nutritious meals while keeping strong standards in food safety and hygiene.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and playing golf.

Lynne Cuthill
Lynne Cuthill
Business Administrator

I bring a range of qualifications in Business Administration, Adult Health and Social Care, and Customer Care to my role as Business Administrator. Before joining Magdalen Park, I worked as a Deputy Manager, gaining valuable experience in leadership and coordinating the smooth running of a service. These roles have shaped the way I work today, giving me a strong work ethic and a calm, approachable manner.

In my role, being organised, caring and an excellent listener is essential. I support the home by managing a busy workload, working with external providers and ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time. Communication is a key part of my job, especially when supporting residents and families with financial matters. I always aim to provide clarity, accuracy and reassurance, helping to resolve queries quickly and sensitively.

Choosing to move into the care sector later in life has been the most fulfilling step in my career. I am proud to empower residents, welcome visitors and work behind the scenes to support the place our residents call home. Being proactive and positive, and working together as a team, helps us make a meaningful difference every day.

Outside of work, I am actively involved in my local community through Scouting, charity work and supporting vulnerable individuals. I also enjoy swimming and crocheting.

Jodie Smith
Jodie Smith
Receptionist and Business Administrator

I joined Magdalen Park 11 years ago and I’m proud to now work as Receptionist and Business Administrator. I completed my NVQ Level 2 in Business and Administration at college, and I’m currently working through a range of Care UK training to help me navigate our systems with confidence. Before moving into admin, I worked as a Care Assistant, which gave me a strong understanding of the residents’ needs and the day to day life of the home.

I believe you need to be warm, welcoming and approachable in this role. Being helpful and patient is essential too, especially when supporting residents, families and colleagues. One of the biggest highlights of my career was saving a resident’s life when she began choking. Using a de-choking device meant she recovered safely, and it’s something I’ll never forget.

I feel proud when visitors comment on how cheerful and welcoming the home feels. Creating that positive first impression really matters to me.

The most important part of my role is keeping accurate records, including colleagues’ timesheets and respite information, so everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

Outside of work I love being a mum to my two boys, aged eight and ten. We enjoy making memories together. I also love walking our sausage dog and keeping active, especially at the gym.

Dementia Unit Manager

I have been working in care since I was 16 years old. I began my career as a Care Assistant and, through dedication and ongoing development, progressed into senior roles before becoming Unit Manager on the Dementia Unit. This journey is my proudest career achievement and reflects my passion for learning, growth and delivering high-quality care.

I hold an NVQ Level 3 and an NVQ in Team Leading, and I bring strong organisational skills and a collaborative approach to my role. I believe the key qualities needed to do this job well are patience, understanding and strong listening and communication skills. I aim to lead by example, stay calm under pressure and support and motivate my team to deliver the very best person-centred dementia care.

My favourite part of the working day is spending time chatting with residents and seeing them happy. Building trusting relationships, offering comfort and reassurance, and knowing I’ve made a positive difference means everything to me.

I feel most proud when I see residents living fulfilled lives and knowing the care and support my team and I provide has enhanced their wellbeing and quality of life. Ensuring compassionate, safe and person-centred care, while supporting my colleagues to maintain high standards, is the most important part of my role.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my grandson, as well as relaxing with Lego building and crocheting.

Unit lead

With more than 11 years of experience in care, my journey has been shaped by a genuine passion for supporting others and helping teams deliver the very best care. I began my career as a carer and progressed to senior carer before stepping into my current role as Unit Lead at Magdalen Park. Along the way, I have completed my NVQ Levels 2 and 3 and am currently enrolled on a Level 5 Leadership and Management course, which is helping me continue to grow both professionally and personally.

I believe strong leadership is built on approachability, compassion and clear communication. Leading by example is important to me, as is supporting and guiding my team so we can foster a positive, person-centred culture where everyone feels valued and confident in their role.

My favourite part of the working day is spending time with residents and knowing I am making a real difference to their daily lives. Seeing residents achieve personal goals and feel well cared for is incredibly rewarding and something I take great pride in.

What matters most to me in my role is ensuring the unit runs smoothly and that residents consistently receive outstanding, high-quality care from a motivated and united team.

Outside of work, I enjoy walking and spending precious time with my grandchildren.

Jackie Conman
Jackie Conman
Housekeeper

I bring more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry to my role at Magdalen Park. During that time, I led teams to maintain high standards and ensure spaces were welcoming and well cared for.

I hold an NVQ Level 2 in Cooking and Catering Services and have always taken pride in delivering excellent service. One of my personal achievements is completing my NVQ at the age of 43, something I’m still proud of today.

Before joining the home, I ran my own coffee shop in a small town, which gave me valuable experience in organisation, customer service and attention to detail.

What I enjoy most about my working day is knowing I’ve achieved my goals and helped create a clean, safe and pleasant environment for residents. Maintaining high standards is something I care deeply about, and it makes me proud to know my work contributes to the comfort and wellbeing of everyone who lives here.

Outside of work, I enjoy music, sewing, gardening and going on holidays. These hobbies help me relax and recharge, ready for another productive day supporting the home.

Maintenance

I originally started my Care UK journey as a Kitchen Assistant, but after spending time supporting the maintenance team, I discovered how much I enjoyed the hands-on nature of the role and the variety it brings. Moving into maintenance felt like a natural fit for me.

I am fully trained to meet the demands of my role and hold up-to-date certifications in First Aid, Health and Safety, and Fire Safety. Having a strong knowledge of the building, being adaptable to changing priorities, and communicating clearly with colleagues and residents are all essential parts of what I do. I take pride in working safely, following procedures, and maintaining high standards at all times.

My favourite part of the day is completing tasks that directly support the welfare of residents. Building positive relationships with residents and colleagues is really important to me, as I believe a safe, welcoming environment starts with strong teamwork and mutual respect.

One of my biggest career highlights was serving in the Royal Navy, where I had the honour of acting as a personal attendant to a member of the Royal Family. This experience shaped my professionalism and attention to detail.

What makes me most proud in my role is knowing that my work helps keep the home safe for everyone who lives, works, and visits here.

Outside of work, I enjoy socialising, fishing, and watching Rugby League, especially supporting Hull FC.
