Television star helps Jubilee House celebrate 10th anniversary

Company news

Mark Stacey, presenter of the BBC television show, Cash in the Attic, dropped in to help staff and residents celebrate the 10th anniversary of Care UK’s Jubilee House home at Godalming, in Surrey.

Mark, who also presents other popular programmes such as Celebrity Bargain Hunt, unveiled a plaque to commemorate ten years of care at the 48 bed nursing home, which provides care for frail older people. It also has a specialist unit for people suffering from dementia.

About 70 people attended the anniversary celebrations, including the Mayor of Godalming, Mrs Joy Poulter and Mrs Mary Thomas, who is chair of the Friends of Jubilee House.

Said Mrs Thomas: “This has been a wonderful day for all the residents. They really gain so much from the happy atmosphere that has been generated. The staff here provided excellent care for my late husband and it is wonderful to see Jubilee House going from strength to strength.”

The ten year celebration provided an important landmark for Jubilee House. The home has a full programme of regular activities which cover a wide range of interests and close links are maintained with the local community. Churches, schools and local groups are regularly invited to participate in the life of the home, with the aim being to create an environment which feels like home and where friends and family are always welcome.

Tony Weedon, Care UK’s Director of Operations for Residential Care Services, presented 10-year long service certificates to members of staff including Mary Culley, who is a chef, and Stephen Thomson, a kitchen assistant.

Jubilee House’s home manager, Philip Hayes, welcomed everyone to the new Garden Lounge Café, which was named following a competition among staff. The Mayor announced the winner - Linda Gatford, a member of the laundry team.

To get people into the party atmosphere, Susie Drage, led the musical entertainment, with a selection of old songs to get people dancing.

Said Philip Hayes: “It was a wonderful day much enjoyed by residents and staff alike. A lot of work went into the planning and I think we ensured our tenth birthday was well and truly celebrated.”
