Guildhall walk health centre scoops national innovation award

Company news

Kim Dennis, Service Manager at Guildhall Walk Healthcare Centre has won national recognition for developing an improved way of keeping track of the health needs of vulnerable children and adults in the local area.

Kim Dennis, Service Manager at Guildhall Walk Healthcare Centre, run by Care UK, came up with a new process to ensure local children and families receive the care and support they need, delivered by the best placed professionals. The tool identifies those registered patients who have particular special needs and allows other health and social care professionals within the local area to keep an eye their progress.

Kim’s work was recognised for the Innovation Award as part of Care UK’s national awards for its healthcare centres and professionals across the country.

Kim said: "I developed the safeguarding vulnerable people risk register to allow our team to keep a closer eye on the children and families that need our support.

"Every day we are able to check the register and see if anyone has missed an important health appointment such as an immunisation or asthma check and we can then follow this up to find out why they may have missed the appointment and ensure they get seen by a doctor or nurse.

"Our patients are at the heart of everything we do and the new system means we can be confident that our support is reaching those who need it most, particularly those who may struggle to manage their own healthcare."

The tool received local recognition from local health and social professionals as an exemplary piece of work and is now being adapted for implementation across all Care UK's healthcare units.

Kim added: "It’s fantastic that the centre has been recognised nationally with this award and I hope that the best practice we’ve shown will allow other professionals to adopt this method and ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable people all over the UK."
