St Mary's NHS Treatment Centre enhances services for local residents

Company news

Staff at the St Mary’s NHS Treatment Centre are looking forward to offering their patients a whole raft of new and enhanced services starting this summer.

After five successful years, during which the centre has seen over 200,000 patients, it is set to expand the range of services for Portsmouth citizens. Diabetics will have even better eyecare thanks to an extension of the existing diabetic retinopathy service, with the whole service being managed by Care UK. People who attend the minor injuries unit at St Mary’s with suspected broken bones will be able to access a new fracture clinic in the facility. Following feedback from patients and in line with government initiatives, people attending the day surgery centre will find that, on any one day, only all men or all women will be treated to guarantee single sex wards.

Longer opening hours will also be good news for busy Portsmouth people. The Centre will be extending the opening hours during the week and at weekends. The minor injuries unit will open half an hour earlier, at 7.30am during the week (Monday to Friday), whilst the walk-in x-ray service will open between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays when the new contract comes into place on 4th July. Staff will also be working with local health services to provide health information and education to walk-in patients.

The move comes following a new three-year contract win by existing provider Care UK, which operates the centre on behalf of NHS Portsmouth.

Penny Daniels, general manager at St Mary’s Treatment Centre, Care UK, said: “Since it launched, the centre has become a well-used NHS facility for Portsmouth residents. Over 25,000 patients have experienced our day surgery facility for a range of minor operations and we’ve carried out over 51,000 diagnostic procedures. Our walk-in centre and minor injuries unit has seen over 182,000 patients.

“The innovations to the service at the centre will ensure that we continue to provide high quality healthcare to local residents.”

In addition to the extensions to the service, the centre also provides a range of NHS services, including a walk-in facility, minor injuries unit, diagnostics, day surgery and diabetic retinopathy services.

The treatment centre is located on Milton Road, Portsmouth. The minor injuries unit is currently open from Monday to Sunday from 8am – 10pm. Diagnostics is open Monday to Friday 8am – 7pm and day surgery is available Monday to Friday from 7.30am – 6pm.
