Generous landscapers help day centre guests grow green-fingers

Company news

Visitors to Care UK’s Maplestead Day Club in Halstead will be showing off their green fingers thanks to a new addition to the garden.

Colchester-based landscaping company Oak View Landscapes Ltd, which played a large role in the development of the centre and its attached care home, Colne View, decided it wanted to go one step further and give the garden some finishing touches.

So a team of workers from the company returned to the site to construct a raised, 3.5 metre-long planter made of new railway sleepers – perfect for the club’s visitors to use.

Oak View general manager Matt Selby said: “We developed the landscaping around the club and its attached care home Colne View. We had built up a great rapport with the team and we knew that the visitors would be interested in gardening so we made the offer.

“We have designed the planter to be at just the right height, so the visitors don’t have to bend or stretch, and I am sure they will have a great time gardening and enjoying the fruit and vegetables.”

Club Manager Catherine Anderson-Mills said: “Everyone is delighted at Oakview’s generous gift and there has been a great deal of interest in the garden. Many visitors have been keen gardeners in the past and it is wonderful to be able to offer them the opportunity to do it again in a safe and accessible way.

“Sadly we have not had the best of weather for gardening so far, but everyone is very excited at the prospect of seeing the tulips and daffodils in the spring.”
