Residents at Forrester Court care home will be dancing the day away to celebrate the UK’s first Silv

Home news

Sunday October 7 has been named as the date for the first Silver Sunday, a day to celebrate older people, and events such as tea dances, special lunches and community events are taking place across the country.

Care UK has become an official partner for Silver Sunday, and Forrester Court will be holding a Tea Dance from 2pm until 4.30pm to mark the day.

Live music from a visiting choir will add some extra sparkle to the event and will be sure to get everyone’s toes tapping.

Relatives and friends of residents are all invited to join in the fun and help celebrate Silver Sunday.

Forrester Court is one of a number of Care UK homes holding Silver Sunday events and homes in the neighbouring boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea and Hammersmith and Fulham are also hosting tea dances and celebration meals.

Community groups and families can mark Silver Sunday in a number of ways, whether it is getting involved in a special event, visiting older relatives or encouraging youngsters to make cards or spend time with older people.

Local schools and youth groups have also been invited to visit the homes and join in with Silver Sunday events and preparations.

Sue Ann Jones, Home Manager at Forrester Court said: “Silver Sunday is a great idea and offers a brilliant opportunity to have some fun and celebrate how special every one of the residents is.

“Music and dancing are fun whatever your age and the staff and residents are all excited about putting our dancing shoes on and having a great afternoon. It will be a wonderful way for relatives and friends to catch up with the residents and enjoy some time together, and maybe some of our younger visitors can learn about dancing the old fashioned way!”
