Gillingham Treatment Centre star wins unsung hero award

Company news

Annette Burton, who in the true nature of superheroes is described as very quiet and unassuming by colleagues, has won a prestigious award for her contribution to helping healthcare professionals provide excellent treatment at the Will Adams NHS Treatment Centre in Gillingham.

Clinical coder Annette was very surprised to be recognised at the national Health Care Awards for her behind-the-scenes role which requires accuracy and knowledge of medical terminology to translate diagnostic and procedural information into codes for finance and information purposes.

She said: “I was surprised at being nominated and absolutely delighted when I found out I had won the Unsung Hero category. I would like to thank my colleagues for their kind words in putting me forward for the award.”

Martin Page, General Manager at Will Adams NHS Treatment Centre, said: “To me, Annette is the epitome of an unsung hero: someone who carries out their duties without fuss and without notice. She rarely makes mistakes and data accuracy is of paramount importance to the service.

“The role she undertakes is arduous and time consuming, but is pivotal to the service we provide. Annette is always there: she takes the work load in her stride and never complains; she is never demanding but will form an intelligent request if something is required.

“Without the good service she provides, Will Adams NHS Treatment Centre would not be able to function. The accuracy of the detail she provides helps us deliver quality services for the NHS commissioners and our patients.”

The Health Care Awards were open to Care UK’s team of more than 2,900 staff who provide expert care and services to patients at GP practices, diagnostics services, special treatment centres, out-of-hours services and prisons across the country.

The Will Adams NHS Treatment Centre offers high quality day case treatment in a wide range of specialties including orthopaedics, urology, cataract surgery, general surgery and gastroenterology. Visit www.willadamstreatmentcentre.nhs.uk to find out more.
