Patient survey shows 96% of Dagenham walk-in centre patients seen within an hour

Company news

As news bulletins continue to run stories about the percentage of people waiting for more than four hours to be seen in A & E departments across the country, one Dagenham health clinic is bucking the trend for long waiting times for its walk-in centre patients.

Manager of the Broad Street Medical Practice, Stephen Colman from Care UK is delighted that his team now see almost 96 per cent of walk-in centre patients within one hour.  And over seven out of ten patients are seen within 30 minutes.

Stephen said: “While A & E is always the right place for serious life threatening conditions, local people with minor injuries and illnesses who are unable to get to see their GP may feel they have no alternative but to go to A & E.  However, we are an NHS service which can treat cuts, bumps and grazes, burns, strains, sprains, bites, ear, throat and minor skin infections, eye conditions and stomach pains. And the fact that people won’t have a long wait is always popular with patients who have busy lives.”

In response to demand from local people, the team at Broad Street are also offering two other very popular services:

  • Removing stitches and dressing wounds for people who have undergone surgery.
  • Taking routine blood  tests anytime between 7am and noon every week day when they have been requested by a patient’s GP.

Stephen continued: “We don’t turn any patient away.  Even if we can’t treat the patient, my team do their very best to help by giving advice and guidance on what the next healthcare steps should be and will refer on as appropriate”.

The team at Broad Street Practice is delighted to announce that its contract to run the NHS walk in centre has been extended until March 2014. It is open Monday to Friday from 7am until 10pm and on weekends and bank holidays from 10am to 6pm.
