Home news
Jul 01, 2013
On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day and here, in West Drayton, we were not about to be left out!
The day was to be a celebration of all that is great about residential care. At Franklin House visitors were able to experience a normal day in the home. Manager Nompilo Ndlovu explained: “We showed visitors around our home and there was a chance to meet some of the residents in the reminiscence room.
“Everyone enjoyed the happy hour with entertainer Martyn Halsey, and it enabled people to see a typical day at Franklin House. “
At The Burroughs care home, Regional Director Desiree Jooste said: “We were pleased that our day was both fun and helpful. As well as a tour around the home we watched a video and answered questions about living with dementia as we talked about life in the home.
“The afternoon was dedicated to fun with entertainment from Nik Stoter, classic barbecue favourites and strawberries and cream and Pimms served by our kitchen team.”
As well as showing visitors around we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
