People caring for loved ones with dementia are invited to a free evening of help and advice at Care UK’s Beech Hurst care home in Haywards Heath on Tuesday 29th October.
The drop-in session is open to all and runs from 4pm-7pm at the home in Butler’s Green Road. Manager Nikki Wheatley-Crowe said: “Caring for a loved one, whether they have dementia or not, can hold many challenges.
“Often people caring for a parent are out at work all day and have younger members of their family to care for too. Knowing where to begin accessing information that will help you care for someone can be a puzzle, especially if you are tired and pushed for free time.
“We hope our evening will demystify some aspects of caring, as well as signposting people to some of the excellent support groups and services that are available in the area.”
As well as experts from Care UK, the team at the home will be joined by members of the Alzheimer’s Society and Rowan Ashcourt, who provide advice on financial planning for long term care. There will also be tours of the home.
Nikki said: “A feeling of isolation is very common in people who are caring for others in the community. We hope this evening will not only provide people with a wealth of invaluable information but that it will also introduce them to people who are in similar situations and also people who can offer help.”
Care UK runs 107 residential homes across the country and its activities coordinators have written a book called ‘As Easy as ABC’, which gives 100 tried and tested activities that families can do with their loved one, both to have fun and to increase their relative’s overall wellbeing. The book will be available free to all those attending the seminar and for those who cannot attend, the book is downloadable free of charge from www.careuk.com.
