Top praise for Ipswich care home in national satisfaction survey

Company news

Hawthorn Drive care home in Ipswich has been rated ‘best home’ in an independent Relatives’ Satisfaction Survey which assessed the quality of services being provided at 107 Care UK homes nationally. Relatives were asked to rate staff friendliness and approachability, the variety of food served, general cleanliness of the home and the overall quality of care provided by staff. Suffolk also came out as the ‘best region’ in the country.

Hawthorn Drive Manager, Beverly Gilbert, said: “It is incredibly rewarding making a difference to the lives of residents, ensuring they feel completely comfortable and at home. To hear that Hawthorn Drive has been rated as the best Care UK home in the country is truly overwhelming and definitely a cause for celebration!”

Hawthorn Drive is one of 16 Suffolk care homes which Care UK took over responsibility for on 1st December 2012 from Suffolk County Council. Less than a year later the Relatives’ Satisfaction Survey has endorsed the smooth transition process and continuity of care provided.

Chris Hopkinson, Regional Operations Director, Care UK, said: “This is an outstanding achievement for Hawthorn Drive and all our other Suffolk homes. I am delighted to hear that Care UK’s provision in Suffolk is praised highly among the residents’ family members and would like to thank all those who responded to the survey for highlighting the brilliant work of the Suffolk teams.”

Hawthorn Drive care home residents, Jean Shenton and Joyce Rose, meanwhile, who are twin sisters, took a first look at the new home they will be moving to next year when, with their carers, they were invited to the topping out celebration at Asterbury Place on Aster Road in Chantry on 9th October. The new home is just around the corner from Hawthorn Drive and will open in summer 2014.

Hawthorn Drive Care UK Manager, Beverly Gilbert, says that the residents are excited about the move to the new home and that they hope for even better results from next year’s Relatives’ Satisfaction Survey when they will be enjoying a better range of modern facilities.

Care UK’s £60 million investment plan into ten new care homes and ten wellbeing centres in Suffolk will help fulfil the need for additional nursing and dementia care in the county. The plan has made excellent progress in the first ten months, with eight planning approvals achieved, four homes already under construction and work starting on another three in the next few weeks.
