Billingham residential home scoops national care award

Home news

Care UK’s Hadrian Park care home in Billingham has won a national award for its team’s commitment to creating a life-enhancing physical environment for the home’s 73 residents.

Judges were impressed that the team, from the care home in Marsh House Avenue, had created a number of relaxing but different environments that gave residents lots of opportunities to spend time alone, or with friends and family, in places that suited their moods or that facilitated their interests.

Hadrian Park is divided into three suites – Poppy, Chester and Lilly – and each suite has a special room. In the Poppy suite there is a reminiscence room and 1940s-style tea room, full of items from yesteryear to help bring back happy memories; the Chester suite has a pub themed room; and the Lilly suite has a contemporary-style lounge and bistro, which is ideal for celebrations and family visits.

The awards were open to all Care UK homes and wellbeing centres across the country, and the team was delighted when the home name was announced at a ceremony organised by Care UK on 14th November at Heythrop Park Resort in Oxford.

Manager Denise Findley, who received the award on behalf of the team, said she was delighted by the award: “We have tried to create environments where people can meet with friends and relatives or spend some time alone. Choice is crucial to great care and maintaining dignity.

“Keeping active is the secret to staying independent and getting the most out of life. That’s why we make sure that there’s always something happening at Hadrian Park. Recently, at one of our regular community fetes, several of our residents decided they wanted to try a bouncy castle for the first time and they loved it.

“Most of our residents are also local people, so the team has worked to ensure Hadrian Park has become a busy part of the local community. We’re in the heart of things and have visits from local schools and church groups, as well as ensuring that residents regularly visit community groups and friends.”
