East sussex care home wins at NHS proud to care awards

Home news

The team at Care UK’s Heather View care home in Crowborough is celebrating after scooping a top award at the annual NHS Surrey and Sussex Proud to Care Public Choice Awards.

The winners of the awards were announced on Friday 28th March in a ceremony which recognised outstanding and exceptional individuals in the region’s care industry.

The Chelwood team at Heather View was awarded the Public Choice Award after being nominated by a resident’s relative who described them as ‘an excellent team’.   The relative added that the team are ‘thoroughly committed, hardworking and providing excellent care and support to all residents on their floor’ and went on to say that each resident is treated ‘equally and with the utmost dignity, kindness and respect.’

Speaking about the event, Heather View’s home manager, Trish Banks said: “We were thrilled to be shortlisted for the Public Choice award and to win is a real honour for every member of the Chelwood team at Heather View.  The award means so much as our ethos is to care for our residents in the same way as we would care for one of our own relatives, and it is fantastic the team’s hard work has been recognised and rewarded in this way.”

The Proud to Care Awards are intended to celebrate the achievements of nurses, health visitors, midwives and care staff who have gone over and above the call of duty in delivering care.

Julia Dutchman-Bailey is director of nursing and quality for NHS England (Surrey and Sussex).  Julia said: “The Proud to Care Awards are given to those who have gone the extra mile and delivered exceptional care across Surrey and Sussex. All winners and runners-up should be immensely proud of themselves – this is a fantastic achievement and one they should be rightly proud of.”

Situated on Beacon Road in Crowborough, Heather View is 74-bedroom care home with accommodation across three floors, one of which is the Chelwood team’s floor. Each of the 74 bedrooms at Heather View is light and spacious, with en-suite facilities, a flat-screen TV, adjustable profile bed, 24-hour nurse call system, plus phone and wireless internet.
