Family fun was the order of the day at The Burroughs care home on Mill Road when it welcomed the people of West Drayton through its doors last week as the care home took part in National Care Home Open Day.
Run by leading health and social care provider Care UK, The Burroughs pledged its support for the annual initiative, which aims to dispel myths around the care environment, changing perceptions of care homes and connecting residents with their communities.
Visitors enjoyed a 1950’s themed afternoon tea event with live music and cream tea to raise money for Age UK Hillingdon, which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. The care team were also on hand to answer any questions and conducted tours of the care home.
Josephine Thomas, home manager at The Burroughs, said: “National Care Home Open Day provided a fantastic opportunity for the team at The Burroughs to invite local people to take a closer look at the care home. It was a pleasure to meet and greet all of our visitors and everyone enjoyed the activities.
“We hope that by opening our doors we have challenged any preconceived ideas about care homes and we have demonstrated how the modern care environment is warm and inviting, and plays an important role in the community.”
Those who visited The Burroughs picked up complimentary copies of Care UK’s first-person guides - ‘As Easy As ABC’ guide and the recently launched ‘Listen, Talk, Connect’. The guides provide practical information and tips to those caring for loved ones living with dementia, as well as advice on how to communicate with a loved one in a care home and make the most of their visits.
The Burroughs home has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home offers a range of services including residential, specialist dementia care and respite care.
