Making a difference to people living with dementia is a privilege, says Crowborough carer nominated

Home news

Chris Belton, a health care assistant at Care UK’s Heather View care home in Crowborough, has reached the finals of the prestigious National Dementia Care Awards for his dedication and commitment to improving the wellbeing and quality of life for residents living with dementia.

Chris joined the team at Heather View in 2012, having previously taken early retirement to care for his wife during the final stages of her terminal illness.

Trish Banks, home manager at Heather View, said: “The quality of his care is exceptional and his sincere, caring personality shines through, whatever the circumstances.”

Chris said: “It is entirely possible for someone with dementia to continue to live a happy, contented and fulfilled life.

“I am privileged to work with valued colleagues at Heather View to provide care, support and guidance to people for whom, with the onset of dementia, life has changed, and with it brought new challenges and concerns.

“Clearly we try to meet the support needs of residents with kindness, understanding and compassion, always upholding the dignity and individual preferences of each person.”

Chris will be interviewed later in the month by National Dementia Care Awards judges at the London Hilton Metropole and their decision will be announced on 11 November 2014 at the awards ceremony in Brighton.
