Newbury care home goes on a dementia adventure

Company news

People in Newbury are invited on a dementia adventure at Care UK’s Winchcombe Place care home on Thursday 26 February from 10am to 1pm.

At the free event, Neil Mapes from Dementia Adventure will be joining the team at Winchcombe Place to share his knowledge and provide practical tips for those caring for someone living with dementia. Neil will help people understand how memories are lost and give guidance on how to overcome communication barriers.

Part of an ongoing partnership between Care UK and Dementia Adventure, the event is designed to help family members and carers gain a clearer understanding of dementia. After the event Neil will be on hand to answer any questions, and there will be an opportunity for members of the public to meet the carers at Winchcombe Place and take a tour of the home.

Michelle Sides, home manager at Winchcombe Place, said: “Dementia Adventure is an incredibly exciting organisation which really does make a positive difference to the lives of carers and people living with dementia. By working together we can continue to support people in Newbury affected by the condition, ensuring those living with dementia remain connected and lead active and fulfilled lives. We are looking forward to welcoming Dementia Adventure to Winchcombe Place, and to inviting the local community along to find out more.”

These who attend the Understanding Dementia seminar at Winchcombe Place will be able to collect a copy of Care UK’s Listen, Talk, Connect guide which helps carers, friends and relatives to overcome any challenges they may face in having conversations and general interaction with those living with dementia.

Situated on Maple Crescent in Newbury, Winchcombe Place is one of Care UK’s newest homes. It provides a range of services from residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, to short term respite and sensitive end of life care.
