Care UK invites people in Crowbrough to celebrate Care Home Open Day

Home news

Care UK’s Heather View care home in Crowbrough is inviting local people to visit the home on Beacon Road on Saturday 20th June to join in its family-friendly celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From 10.30am to 4pm, Heather View care home will be transformed into a gallery for a free creative-themed event. A recent pottery project ‘Tree Tops’ produced by local artist Deborah Tompsett together with the residents of Heather View care home will be revealed. While Deborah will be on hand to show how the project was put together and will also be displaying some of her own pottery works, and for those feeling creative there will also be an opportunity to have a go for yourself.

GCSE artwork produced by students from Beacon Academy in Crowborough will also be on show alongside a mixed display of artwork created by Heather View residents.

Residents will also be painting on canvas, giving visitors an idea of the type of activities that take place at Heather View and there will be a very special performance from local children’s drama group, Stage Door Drama, who will be bringing a piece which they have written, produced and directed to Heather View. Throughout the afternoon, there will be live entertainment to help the party go with a swing and a barbeque providing refreshments.

The event at Heather View is one of thousands planned throughout the UK for Care Home Open Day. The annual initiative is aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, creating lasting links between care homes, residents and their local communities, and developing relationships across the generations.

Trish Banks, home manager at Heather View, said: “Care homes undoubtedly play an important role in the local community; however some people have preconceived ideas about the care environment and what day-to-day life is like for residents.  This is partly because they have never seen a modern care home for themselves.

“We are therefore looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Saturday 20th June.  We cannot wait to showcase everything Heather View has to offer and the difference care homes make to residents’ lives and their wellbeing. I would urge people to check the Care UK website for more information and times. A warm welcome awaits the people of Crowbrough.”

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Heather View will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go.  The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.

Good to Go provides practical advice on how to make the most of every outing, big or small, with words of encouragement volunteered by people working in Care UK care homes, as well as residents and family carers.  The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/goodtogo.
