The Carers Support Group will be held bi-monthly at the Mildenhall Club, adjacent to Mildenhall Lodge care home in St John’s Close, Mildenhall, with the first meeting launching during Carers Week on 11th June, from 6pm-7.30pm.
The Carers Support Group has been set up by Mildenhall Lodge deputy manager Jan Harman and Mildenhall Club manager Ann Pitcher, who both agreed there was a need to offer local family carers a place to come together and share ideas and experiences with people in the same position as them, as this is often the best source of support for people coping with the challenges of caring for a loved one.
Ann Pitcher said: “The support group will be relaxed and welcoming and, in time, we hope attendees will be able to lead with the discussions with what is really important to them. Experienced carers from the home will be on-hand to answer questions and ease any concerns, as well as occasional visits from guest speakers.
“We look forward to meeting many new faces at our first session on 11th June. All are welcome to attend and there’s no need to book a place.”
Free refreshments will be available at the Carers Support Group as well as opportunities to pick up some Care UK’s free dementia guides, including ‘Good to Go’, which highlights the benefits of staying active After the 11th June, the event will be held at the same time (6pm-7.30pm) on 13th August, 8th October and 10th December.
