Bury St Edmunds care home offers free advice for preventing falls

Home news

Family carers in Bury St Edmunds are being invited to attend a free event which will provide information and advice on preventing slips and falls for their older loved ones at home.

The ‘Falls prevention and awareness’ event will be held on Friday 24th July from 2pm-4pm at Davers Court care home on Shakers Lane in the town.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance and advice from local experts from the National Osteoporosis Society, West Suffolk Integrated Fracture Liaison Service, Sensing Change and Age UK Suffolk. There will also be the chance to take part in Otago exercises, which can help with improving balance and coordination, so carers are encouraged to bring their loved ones along.

John Edwards, home manager at Davers Court, said: “Slipping or falling in later life becomes more common as the physical deterioration of eyesight, hearing and muscle strength makes it more difficult to spot and avoid hazards.

“At the ‘Falls prevention and awareness’ event there will be plenty of expert advice and practical tips about how to make you and your environment safer and reduce the risk of falls.”
